Life-Saving Device Theft at Halaulani LCC Rail Station in Pearl City: Police Seek Suspects

On Monday, September 16, at approximately 5 p.m., a theft occurred at the Halaulani LCC Rail Station in Pearl City. Surveillance footage captured two individuals removing an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) pack from its designated location on the wall. The suspects, a man and a woman, left the scene shortly after the incident.

Authorities have provided very limited descriptions of the suspects. The female is described as Polynesian, while the male suspect appears to be Caucasian. Investigators are currently reviewing the footage and asking for public assistance in identifying the individuals involved. The AED, a critical life-saving device, is essential for emergencies, and its theft is concerning for the safety of the community.

Law Enforcement Warns Public of Phone Scammers Posing as Officers

The state Department of Law Enforcement has issued a warning to the public regarding phone scammers posing as law enforcement officers. These impersonators use scare tactics, falsely claiming that individuals face arrest for missing court hearings or jury duty. To avoid this alleged consequence, victims are told they can pay a bail or civil fee to resolve the issue.

The department emphasized that law en

forcement agencies never solicit payments over the phone. They advise people to remain vigilant and refrain from sharing any sensitive financial information, such as credit card or bank account numbers, with callers claiming to be officers.

Scammers often employ "spoofing" tactics to make it appear as if the call is coming from a legitimate Department of Law Enforcement number, though these calls typically originate from outside the state. In addition, scammers frequently mispronounce local Hawaiian street names or reference nonexistent government offices.

Residents who receive suspicious calls are encouraged to contact the Department of Law Enforcement at 808-586-1352.

Hawaiian Humane Society Faces Crisis as Virus Cases Spike, Urges Community Action

The Hawaiian Humane Society is dealing with a surge in canine parvovirus and feline panleukopenia cases, urging the community to delay non-emergency pet surrenders and consider adoption or fostering. Adoption fees are waived until September 30, and foster homes are needed to help prevent the spread of disease. The society is stressing the importance of vaccinations and spaying/neutering to reduce the impact of the outbreak.
