Pearl City Vape Shop Hit by Smash-and-Grab Robbery
A vape shop in Pearl City was the latest target of a smash-and-grab robbery last Thursday night. The incident occurred at around 10:45 p.m., just minutes after the Aloha Smoke Shack had closed for the evening.
Three suspects used rocks to break through the front doors of the shop before ransacking the store. Surveillance footage captured the individuals filling their backpacks with various stolen items. According to the store owner, the break-in happened only 10 minutes after the last employee had left for the day.
This recent burglary is part of a growing trend in Oahu, where businesses have been frequently hit by smash-and-grab thieves. Police records indicate that there have been nearly 100 similar incidents since last October.
Authorities are asking anyone with information regarding the crime to contact Honolulu CrimeStoppers at (808) 955-8300.
Aloha Stadium Bid Deadline Missed, but 2028 Completion Still on Track
The state had set September 30 as the target date to accept a winning proposal for the new Aloha Stadium project, but the deadline has been slightly missed. Despite this delay, officials assure that the overall timeline for demolishing the existing stadium and constructing a new one remains on track. The plan aims to have the new facility ready for the 2028 football season.
A five-member committee, appointed by the state comptroller, has been reviewing the proposal submitted by Aloha Halawa District Partners. The state is still working on clarifying certain aspects of the project before finalizing the decision.
Skyway Rail Project Pushes Forward Despite Budget and Construction Challenges
HART is entering the final phase of the Skyway rail project from East Kapolei to South Street. Despite challenges, officials aim to maintain momentum for completion by 2030. CEO Lori Kahikina secured a three-year contract after helping the project progress, but rising costs and five years of construction disruptions downtown remain concerns. With increased tax revenues and cost savings, thereβs optimism for the railβs continued development.
