Pearl City Residents Urged to Check Smoke Alarms for Fire Prevention Week

As Fire Prevention Week approaches, Pearl City residents are being encouraged to check their smoke alarms to ensure they are working properly. Fire chiefs from across the state, alongside Governor Josh Green, have declared October 6-12 as Fire Prevention Week in Hawaii, with this year’s theme focused on “Smoke Alarms: Make Them Work for You!

Pearl City households are urged to take proactive steps to ensure their homes are fire-safe. According to the State Fire Council, functional smoke alarms are crucial in alerting residents to fires in time to evacuate safely. Council Chair Chief Kazuo Todd emphasizes the importance of regular maintenance and testing of smoke alarms, noting that this simple action can save lives.

Pearl City residents can do their part by checking smoke alarm batteries every month, replacing them once a year, and helping neighbors, especially elderly individuals, with their alarms. Governor Green’s proclamation also highlights the growing threat of wildfires across Hawaii, making fire prevention even more critical. He encourages Hawaii residents to remain vigilant, take preventive measures, and stay informed to protect their homes and community.

Pearl at Kalauao Reopens: Book Tee Times and Events at Aiea’s Newly Renovated Golf Course

Pearl at Kalauao, a historic golf course in ʻAiea, Oʻahu, holds a special place in the heart of Hawai‘i’s golf community. Originally opened in 1967 and designed by Akira Sato, the course was known for its challenging layout and picturesque views of Pearl Harbor and the Waiʻanae mountain range. Situated within the culturally significant Kalauao ahupua‘a, the course is steeped in Hawaiian heritage. The name “Kalauao,” which translates to "the multitude of clouds," reflects the area’s natural beauty and deep cultural roots.

In 2020, the property came under the stewardship of Kamehameha Schools, reconnecting it with its original mission of honoring the land while fostering education and community involvement. Extensive renovations began, aimed at modernizing the facilities while preserving the historical and cultural significance of the area. These improvements include a complete overhaul of the irrigation systems, rebuilding of the greens, and upgrades to the clubhouse, all designed to elevate both the golfing experience and the venue’s appeal as a gathering space.

Exciting Announcements for Golfers and Event Planners

After much anticipation, Pearl at Kalauao is thrilled to announce that the newly renovated course and facilities will soon be open to the public. Golf enthusiasts can now book tee times starting November 13th, making it one of the first opportunities to play on the refreshed course. Additionally, the club is accepting event reservations for December 1st and beyond. The upgraded event spaces provide a luxurious setting for weddings, banquets, and special gatherings, making Pearl at Kalauao a premier destination for both golf and celebrations.

For those interested in booking events, reservations can be made through the club’s website under the “Host @ PEARL” tab. Golfers looking to secure tee times can visit the website or use the Pearl at Kalauao app, available on the App Store, for easy booking. The team at Pearl at Kalauao eagerly awaits the opportunity to welcome guests back to experience the transformation and to continue its legacy as a cherished community hub.
