Potential Gas Rate Hike Could Impact Pearl City Residents and Businesses
Pearl City residents are being asked to provide input on a proposed rate increase for Hawaii Gas, the stateās regulated gas utility. The company has filed a request with the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission (PUC) for a 17.67% revenue increase. Hawaii Gas attributes the proposed adjustment to rising operational costs, regulatory compliance, and infrastructure upgrades.
If approved, the rate hike would impact residential and business customers in Hawaii, though the effect will vary depending on gas usage, customer classification, and location. To allow for public participation, the PUC has scheduled hearings where consumers and stakeholders can voice their opinions and ask questions. The first hearing will take place on October 25 in Oahu with hybrid participation options.
For those unable to attend, the PUC is accepting written comments referencing Docket No. 2024-0158. Comments can be submitted online, via email, or through traditional mail.
