Pearl City Residents Invited to The Caregiver Foundation Fundraiser
The Caregiver Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting caregivers, is hosting a special fundraiser on November 2. The event will raise funds to continue providing essential services, including educational programs, community workshops, and support groups for caregivers of all ages, especially youth.
Founded by Gary Powell, The Caregiver Foundation offers a wide range of services to assist caregivers with practical needs such as financial guidance, legal help, and emotional support. According to Powell, caregiving often begins with small acts of assistance and gradually increases over time, making the role emotionally taxing.
The upcoming fundraiser will help ensure that the foundation can maintain and expand its outreach. In addition to general support for caregivers, the foundation offers direct grants to youth caregivers—an often overlooked group that plays a critical role in many families. Powell emphasizes that young caregivers are a growing but under-recognized population, and resources are vital to helping them balance their caregiving responsibilities with their personal development.
Funds raised will also support educational initiatives that help caregivers navigate the complex emotional challenges of their role, enabling them to provide better care for their loved ones. Powell, who has led the organization for 17 years, continues to find fulfillment in knowing the foundation's work makes a real difference in people’s lives.

Celebrate Howl-O-Ween: Dog Costume Parade and Prizes at Hoalauna Park
For the first time, Ewa by Gentry is teaming up with the Oahu SPCA to host a fun-filled, family-friendly event that celebrates the spooky season with a twist. The "Howl-O-Ween Dog Costume Contest & Parade" is a Halloween-themed celebration that invites local families to enjoy a day of festive activities with their furry friends. The event will take place on October 25 at Hoalauna Park, from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
This celebration will feature a parade where dogs can strut their stuff in creative costumes, while attendees enjoy games, crafts, food vendors, and local crafters. There will be five exciting costume contest categories: "All in Family or Duo," "Most Creative," "Scariest Costume," "Cutest Outfit," and "Look Alike," with winners receiving $100 gift certificates to restaurants, pet stores, and more.
Guests are encouraged to register for free before the October 20 deadline via the Ewa by Gentry community office or the event website. In addition to the festivities, the Oahu SPCA will be on-site with dogs and cats available for fostering or adoption, making it an ideal opportunity for anyone looking to welcome a new pet into their family.
For those wanting to support the Oahu SPCA, donations can be made through their website or via Amazon, Target, and other programs. Contributions in honor of a loved one or workplace giving programs are also encouraged. The Oahu SPCA will have a tent at the event to share more information on how the community can help.

Floating Pumpkin Patch Fun Awaits at Kroc Center’s Pool Event
The Kroc Center is gearing up for its highly anticipated Pumpkin Poolooza 2024, a unique, floating pumpkin patch experience right in the pool! This family-friendly event offers kids the chance to dive into some festive fun, picking pumpkins while splashing around in the water.

After swimming and selecting their perfect pumpkin, children will exit the pool through a designated gate near the Aloha desk, where they’ll receive a special goody bag to take home.
