New Grant Boosts Native Hawaiian Education in Agriculture Across UH Campuses
Four University of Hawaiʻi campuses (including Leeward Community College) have been awarded a $1.5 million USDA grant for the HIʻA Project to strengthen Native Hawaiian-serving institutions through food and agricultural sciences education. The project focuses on removing financial and cultural barriers, providing direct support and ʻāina-based learning, and promoting leadership in Hawaiʻi’s food systems. Partnering with community organizations, the initiative also aims to integrate Indigenous knowledge and encourage collaboration across campuses.
