Amnesty Program Offers Safe Return of Illegal Exotic Animals in Hawaii

The Hawaii Department of Agriculture is urging residents who own illegal exotic animals to voluntarily turn them in through the state's Amnesty Program. The initiative aims to prevent the release of non-native species into the environment, where they can pose ecological threats. At a recent event at the Plant Quarantine office, officials highlighted that residents can surrender animals such as snakes and certain lizards without facing penalties or interrogation. By offering a safe and judgment-free process, the department hopes to make it easier for residents to comply and keep Hawaii’s ecosystems protected from potentially harmful species.

Food & New Product Show Brings Tasty Treats and 250+ Vendors to Blaisdell

The 62nd annual Food & New Product Show, Hawaii’s largest and longest-running consumer exhibition, is set to return to Honolulu’s Blaisdell Exhibition Hall for its 62nd year from November 8 to 10. With over 250 local vendors, the event promises to draw crowds of more than 20,000 visitors eager to sample foods, browse new products, and enjoy the show’s dynamic atmosphere.

Attendees will find a wide array of offerings, from food samples to innovative products. Local favorites like the Waialua-based Local Poke Bowl will be showcasing a unique nori poke taco bar, allowing guests to customize their poke tacos with a choice of fresh ingredients. Other popular menu items include ahi katsu, ahi belly bites, and poke nachos, reflecting Hawaii’s vibrant food culture.

In addition to food vendors, the event will feature live entertainment, giveaways, and exciting contests. Guests can enjoy the show on Friday, November 8, from 5 to 9 p.m.; Saturday, November 9, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday, November 10, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

General admission tickets are priced at $6, with discounted $5 tickets available for active military personnel and seniors. Children 12 and under can attend for free with a paying adult. Tickets can be purchased at the Blaisdell Box Office just before each day’s opening, and more event details are available on PacificExpos.com.
