Veterans Day Sunset Ceremony on Battleship Missouri to Honor 70th Anniversary

The Battleship Missouri Memorial in Honolulu, Hawaii, will host a Veterans Day Sunset Ceremony on November 11 at 4:30 PM. This year's observance marks the 70th anniversary of Veterans Day, offering a special opportunity to honor the sacrifices and achievements of the nation's military veterans. The commemorative event, themed "Salute to Heroes," emphasizes the enduring contributions of veterans to the country’s history and future.

Set against the backdrop of Pearl Harbor, the ceremony will feature a poignant reflection on the service of veterans and underscore the community’s ongoing commitment to supporting veterans and their families. Visitors are invited to join this meaningful gathering on the Battleship Missouri’s fantail deck, with stunning views as the sun sets. For those unable to attend in per

son, the event will be streamed live on Facebook and YouTube.

Admission to the ceremony is free, and guests can access a complimentary shuttle service from the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center if they do not have Ford Island access.

Celebrate Hawaiian Culture at This Weekend’s Ho‘omau Market

The Ho‘omau Market returns this weekend, bringing together over 100 Native Hawaiian-owned businesses for a cultural celebration at the Hawai‘i Convention Center. Founded by Kailee Freitas of MahinaMade, this popular event is dedicated to promoting Hawaiian culture, values, and language through its diverse lineup of vendors from O‘ahu, Hawai‘i Island, Maui, Kaua‘i, and Moloka‘i. Attendees can also enjoy live performances by local entertainers, partake in giveaways, and support a meaningful cause—part of the event's proceeds go to Native Hawaiian nonprofits and organizations each year.

The market takes place on Saturday, November 9, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, November 10, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the top floor of the Hawai‘i Convention Center's Kalākaua Ballrooms A, B, and C.

Voters Approve Amendments on Marriage Equality Language, Judicial Confirmations

Hawaii voters cast ballots during the general election on two proposed amendments to the state constitution, both of which passed. The first amendment, removing language that allowed the Legislature to restrict marriage to opposite-sex couples, was approved with 52.1% in favor. Meanwhile, a second amendment streamlining the confirmation process for District Court judges, making it similar to that for Circuit, Appeals, and Supreme Court judges, passed with 61.3% support. Under this change, judicial appointments are automatically confirmed if the Senate does not act within 30 days.
