Listen to Me! Hawaii Returns in Pearl City to Empower Families of Children with Hearing Devices

The "Listen to Me!™ Hawaii" training program is gearing up for its 3rd annual conference from November 9-11 from 8am - 5pm. Taking place at Lehua Elementary in Pearl City, HI, this event focuses on empowering families of children who use hearing devices to learn to listen and speak. Modeled after the successful Listen to Me! Conference at Stanford University, this initiative represents the first satellite expansion of the California-based program.

In its most recent 2023 conference, the atmosphere was electric with community spirit, blending families, volunteers, medical professionals, and educators who are all dedicated to making a meaningful impact. Highlights included collaborative workshops led by program founders and expert teams from California and Hawaii, as well as support from University of Hawaii faculty and graduate students, cochlear implant company representatives, and volunteers. This year's conference was also enhanced by contributions from staff photographer Carol Nakamoto and a welcoming venue at the Kroc Center Hawaii.

Listen to Me!™ Hawaii’s curriculum, developed and refined since 2008, is grounded in research and centers on fostering family growth. By partnering with Hawaii’s medical and educational professionals, the goal is to create a sustainable, annual support and training program.

Leading the Hawaii-based efforts are three specialists in their fields: Jennifer Clark, an Early Childhood Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist; Kimi Perez, a Speech-Language Pathologist with LSLS certification; and Dr. Lori Wiley, an experienced audiologist. Together, they guide the three-day training program to ensure comprehensive, supportive instruction for local families. Learn more
