Hawaiian Electric Prepares for Wildfire Risks Amid Strong Winds Forecast
Hawaiian Electric is monitoring potential wildfire risks due to forecasted gusty winds and low humidity on Friday, November 15. The utility company may enact Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) to mitigate wildfire threats. Residents are urged to prepare for possible power outages by checking emergency supplies and ensuring safety precautions for electrically powered medical devices. Updates will be shared through various channels, with coordination underway with local emergency officials.
Tulsi Gabbard Named Director of National Intelligence by President-elect Trump
President-elect Donald Trump announced on Wednesday his selection of Tulsi Gabbard as the next Director of National Intelligence. Trump highlighted Gabbard’s career accomplishments, noting her tenure as a four-term Congresswoman, her candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination, her success as a New York Times bestselling author, and her military service. Once a Democrat, Gabbard recently joined the Republican Party, which Trump cited as a testament to her broad appeal across party lines.
Gabbard began her political career in the Hawaii State House of Representatives before joining the Army National Guard, where she served two tours in Iraq. Her time in Congress included roles on the Armed Services, Homeland Security, and Foreign Affairs committees. Gabbard left Congress to pursue a presidential bid and formally exited the Democratic Party in 2022, citing ideological differences before aligning with the Republican Party on October 22, 2024.
Trump expressed confidence that Gabbard’s leadership would bolster the Intelligence Community, emphasizing her commitment to upholding constitutional rights and prioritizing a strategy of "peace through strength."
