Pearl City High Band to Shine in Chicago's Magnificent Mile Parade
Pearl City High School's marching band is set to bring their talent and the aloha spirit to Chicago as they perform at the Wintrust Magnificent Mile Lights Festival on Saturday, November 23. This prominent event lights up the Magnificent Mile with over 1 million twinkling lights adorning more than 200 trees along North Michigan Avenue.
The performance marks a historic milestone as the first time a band from Hawaii will participate in the festival parade. Many of these students began their musical journeys during the challenging COVID-19 pandemic, and their resilience and dedication have culminated in this exciting opportunity to perform on a national stage. The band will depart for Chicago on November 20.
Wrongful Arrests at DUI Checkpoints: ACLU Presses HPD for Change
The ACLU has urged the Honolulu Police Department to revise its arrest policies at DUI checkpoints or face potential legal action. The organization highlights cases where sober drivers, were wrongfully detained, accusing officers of manipulating reports and deactivating body cameras to hide misconduct. The ACLU claims these arrests reflect a broader pattern of unconstitutional actions and demands HPD preserve key evidence while reviewing its policies. HPD acknowledged receipt of the ACLU's letter and is working on a response.
