Pearl City High School Air Riflery Team Recognized for Championship Success
The Honolulu City Council recently celebrated the achievements of the Pearl City High School Chargers Air Riflery Team, recognizing their dominance in both local and national competitions. In a special presentation held on July 10, 2025, the council honored the team’s impressive run, which included capturing multiple titles over the past year.
Guided by coaches Lester and Leland Aronaido, the Chargers claimed the 2024 Oahu Interscholastic Association (OIA) Girls Air Riflery Championship. Individual team members Jenna Liang, Chloe Obuhanich, and Regan Chang earned first-team spots on the OIA Air Riflery All-Stars list, highlighting the depth of talent on the squad.
The team's momentum continued at the state level, where they won their fifth Hawaii High School Athletic Association (HHSAA) championship. Notably, the Chargers set a new benchmark by achieving the highest team score in the history of the state tournament.
Their excellence extended beyond Hawaii, as they traveled to Ohio in June 2025 to compete in the national 3-position air rifle championship. There, the team captured first place in the Scholastic Club event category and secured second place overall in the national standings.
The council’s recognition included an honorary certificate for the team and their coaches, underscoring the city's pride in the athletes’ accomplishments. The moment also reflected the increasing visibility of young women in competitive riflery, with some team members now eyeing college-level opportunities and scholarships. As the Chargers prepare for future competitions, they carry with them the strong support of their community and city leaders.
