Free Dictionaries Reach Pearl City Elementary Students |
Rotary literacy project supports third graders |

Pearl City Elementary third graders have new books to explore after a classroom visit on October 2, 2026.
The Rotary Club of Pearlridge brought free dictionaries for students and teachers as part of its annual literacy project.
Children practiced finding words and worked through sign-language pages with Terri Mehlhorn, a retired sign-language teacher.
The project will reach fourteen participating public and private elementary schools across Aiea and Pearl City during the 2026 to 2027 school year.
Teachers will also choose two students at each participating school for Good Citizen Awards recognizing Rotary's service principles.
Those awards include a congratulatory letter and a $50 scholarship at the school year's closing ceremony.
The classroom visits pair reading practice with lessons about fairness and helping others.
