Newly improved section features widened pathways and overhead lighting |
The Pearl Harbor Historic Trail has unveiled a newly enhanced segment located behind the Kalauao Skyline Station and the forthcoming Honolulu Transit hub.
This upgraded portion boasts a widened concrete pathway complemented by overhead lighting, significantly improving safety and accessibility for all users.
These enhancements are part of a broader initiative to rejuvenate the trail and integrate it into the expansive South Shore Shared Use Path, a 32-mile corridor connecting communities from Nānākuli to Mānoa.
We extend our gratitude to State Senator Brandon Elefante, whose vision and support have been instrumental in bringing this project to fruition.
Additionally, we appreciate the ongoing commitment of Councilmember Radiant Cordero to this endeavor.
Special thanks are due to the Honolulu Department of Transportation Services and the City and County of Honolulu Complete Streets program for their dedication to executing this project.
We also acknowledge the support from Senator Brian Schatz and Congressman Ed Case for securing federal funding for the South Shore Path, with local backing from the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation.
Such collaborative efforts are essential in realizing projects that benefit not only cyclists but also pedestrians, runners, and drivers by providing safe and convenient routes.
The Hawai‘i Bicycling League is proud to advocate for the broader riding community, recognizing that these improvements offer affordable, sustainable, and straightforward solutions to our complex transportation challenges. |
