State Senator Henry J.C. Aquino, representing Pearl City, Waipahu, West Loch Estates, Honoʻuliʻuli, and Hoʻopili, has announced his retirement from the Hawaiʻi State Senate, effective November 30, 2025.
Senator Aquino has dedicated 17 years to the Hawaiʻi State Legislature, initially serving as a Representative for District 38 and chairing the Committee on Transportation.
In his statement, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve his constituents and collaborate with colleagues to address the state's needs.
He emphasized that his decision to retire was made after thoughtful consideration and discussions with family and close friends, believing it best serves the interests of Senate District 19.
Following his retirement, Senator Aquino plans to join Hawaiʻi Public Policy Advocates LLC as Vice President of Community Affairs and continue his role as executive director for the Waipahu Community Association.
These positions will allow him to continue serving local communities in new capacities.
His departure marks the end of a significant chapter in Pearl City's political landscape.
During his tenure, Senator Aquino has been instrumental in various community developments, including the introduction of the Skyline rapid transit system.
Phase 1 of the Skyline, which began operations on June 30, 2023, connects East Kapolei to Aloha Stadium, passing through areas adjacent to Pearl City.
Further expansions are planned, with Phase 2 scheduled to open on October 1, 2025, extending the line to Pearl Harbor and the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport.
Additionally, the Pearl City District Park gymnasium is undergoing major renovations, including roof replacement and ventilation improvements, with completion expected before the city's Summer Fun 2025 program.
As Pearl City continues to evolve, the community reflects on Senator Aquino's contributions and looks forward to future developments under new leadership. |
