Starting August 20, Oʻahu pet owners can access reduced-cost spay and neuter services through the Hawaiian Humane Society.
Designed to curb animal overpopulation, these programs promote responsible pet care and benefit both pets and families.
President Anna Neubauer highlighted the organization’s commitment to a healthier, more compassionate community.
Through the Neuter Now Program, qualifying low-income residents may purchase $20 certificates, redeemable for services worth up to $200 at select clinics.
Eligibility extends to those on government assistance, such as Medicaid or EBT/Kōkua cards, allowing up to 10 certificates per year.
Certificates cover exams, anesthesia, surgery, and stitch removal, though some extra fees may apply.
For community cats, the Feline Fix Program offers free spay/neuter, ear notching, and microchipping with no certificate required.

Newtown Estates residents partnered with District 3 Community Policing Team officers to champion traffic safety in their neighborhood.
Gathered at the Newtown Recreation Center, neighbors and officers waved signs to encourage responsible driving and keep local roads safer for everyone.
This united effort highlights the area’s ongoing focus on community well-being.
The Newtown Historic Association also celebrated its Annual Garden Walk on June 7, 2025, inviting residents to explore vibrant local gardens and strengthen their neighborhood bonds.

Pearl City’s young artists are invited to join the 2025 Keiki Art Contest, centered on the inspiring theme, “Fair Housing is Aloha.”
Open to local students in kindergarten through eighth grade, the contest is split into two age groups, creating a welcoming space for both younger and older keiki to showcase their talent.
Entries should be original artwork on 8.5-by-11-inch paper, allowing creativity with mediums like pencil, ink, paint, marker, crayon, or watercolor.
Exciting prizes await: first-place winners in each group will earn $250, with generous awards for second and third place as well.
Honorable mentions will receive special recognition.
All submissions must be received — by mail or online — no later than October 31.
Winners will be revealed in late November, with top entries featured in the 2026 Hawaii Realtors calendar.

After two years of construction, the Naulu Apartments have opened in Halawa, delivering 302 affordable homes for local families.
The modern 25-story tower on Kalaloa Street offers studio, one-, two-, and four-bedroom options, all reserved for residents earning 30% to 60% of the area’s median income.
Monthly rents, which include utilities, range from $704 for a studio to $2,404 for a four-bedroom, in line with 2024 federal housing guidelines.
With a $168 million budget, this is Hawaii’s largest low-income housing tax credit project in over a decade.
Rents will remain capped for low-income residents for at least 61 years thanks to state support.
The Pacific Development Group also funded local art, including a calming, cloud-inspired mural by Gavin Murai, adding a personal touch.
