The long-awaited revitalization of Aloha Stadium faces fresh delays, with completion now aimed for March 2029.
Demolition of the current stadium will start by late August 2025, as project negotiations continue between the state and Aloha Halawa District Partners (AHDP).
Finalizing agreements like the ground lease and operational pacts is deemed crucial for moving forward.
According to Eric Fujimoto, Stadium Authority chair, thorough administrative review is underway to ensure every detail is right.
The redesigned stadium will seat 22,500—slightly less than first planned—and feature 10 luxury boxes, set to host football, soccer, and rugby.
The state pledges $350 million, while AHDP must secure another $125–$150 million.
Preparatory work starts in October, and demolition permits are in place.
The popular stadium swap meet will move to the upper Halawa lot on October 1, ensuring local vendors and shoppers stay connected during the transition. Read More... |
The Honolulu City Council is advancing new property tax relief initiatives for homeowners, bringing potential benefits to residents in Pearl City and across the island.
Two major proposals, Bill 49 and Bill 50, would boost the real property tax exemptions and lessen the tax burden for qualified owners.
Bill 50 seeks to increase the base exemption from $120,000 to $140,000 for all eligible homeowners, while Bill 49 would raise it for seniors 65 and older to $180,000.
These adjustments could notably reduce taxable values, helping both working families and retirees—especially those on fixed incomes—manage rising property values in the years ahead.
Introduced by Council Chair Tommy Waters and Councilmember Val Okimoto, the measures are supported by community groups and analysts.
If approved, the changes are set to begin with the 2027 tax year.
Other Council discussions include exploring new tax financing programs to fund public projects and affordable housing on Oahu. Read More... |
