Pearl City residents now have access to fresh, local milk through a collaboration between Farm Link Hawaii and Meadow Gold Dairies.
This partnership is a key step in reviving Hawaii’s struggling dairy industry.
Once home to over 20 dairies, Hawaii’s local milk production dwindled in recent decades due to high costs, tough regulations, and competition from mainland imports.
Following the 2019 closure of Big Island Dairy, Cloverleaf Farm in Kohala became the only commercial dairy left, modernizing to meet local demand.
Now, Cloverleaf supplies milk to Meadow Gold for processing in Hilo, with Farm Link Hawaii delivering it straight to Oahu homes.
This 100% local milk, branded Island Fresh, carries the state’s official certification and supports local farmers.
Choosing local milk helps reduce imports, promote sustainability, and strengthen Hawaii’s agricultural future. Read More... |
The widely recognized goal of taking 10,000 steps daily for good health is being reconsidered as "Japanese walking" grows in popularity for its efficiency and benefits.
Developed by Shinshu University researchers, this method blends three minutes of brisk walking at about 70% maximum effort with three minutes of slower-paced walking.
This cycle, repeated for 30 minutes, four times a week, has shown measurable improvements in aerobic fitness, leg strength, and blood pressure—outperforming traditional continuous walking.
Unlike the 10,000-step target, which originated more from 1960s Tokyo Olympic marketing than from science, recent studies show that more focused walking routines can yield substantial health rewards with fewer steps.
For anyone seeking a time-saving and effective way to exercise, Japanese walking stands out as a compelling alternative to step counting. Read More... |

This means that employees who work more than 40 hours a week will not have to pay federal taxes on their overtime earnings. The change is expected to benefit workers by allowing them to keep more of their earnings and create incentives for employers to offer overtime opportunities. Other aspects of the Act are also highlighted, including the reduction in individual tax rates and the increase in the standard deduction. Read More... |
