Pearl City's boys bowling team finished second at the Hawaii Army National Guard/HHSAA Bowling State Championships, held Thursday and Friday, Nov. 5 and 6, at Schofield Bowling Center.
The Chargers totaled 7,036 pins over eight games, behind champion Mililani at 7,954 and ahead of third-place Moanalua at 6,969.
Pearl City junior Trenton Ichimura placed second individually with 1,717 pins.
Kapaa senior William Kimura won the boys title with 1,752 pins.
Ichimura sat 11 pins behind Kimura after Thursday's five games and pulled ahead during Friday's final three-game set.
Kimura rallied with a 253 in the last game to take the title.
It is Ichimura's second straight runner-up finish at state, after he placed second as a sophomore in 2025, nine pins behind Castle's Thomas Onodera.
After the final frames, Ichimura walked over to Kimura's lane to give his old friend a snack lei and talk story.
On the girls side, Pearl City's Zaylee-Ann Vergado-Duclayan finished fifth individually with 1,350 pins.
Pearl City still holds the HHSAA boys team record of 8,818 pins, set in 2011. |
