Aiea (9-2) takes on Waipahu (10-1) for the OIA Division I football championship on Friday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. at Pearl City High's Edwin Bino Neves Stadium, according to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser's playoff preview.
The JV Division I title game between Farrington and Waipahu kicks off the night at 5 p.m., and the varsity game will be carried live on radio and TV, per the Hawaii Sports Radio Network's OIA playoff schedule.
Na Alii already punched their ticket to the state tournament with a 30-0 shutout at Waianae in last Saturday's semifinal.
Friday's game is also a rematch, since Waipahu beat Aiea 49-21 when the teams met at Waipahu on Sept. 18.
The Star-Advertiser noted that Aiea hasn't played a single home game this season and has embraced the road warrior life under coach Mika Liilii.
Aiea's defense has allowed just 14.4 points per game in eight OIA Division I games, led by defensive back Ethan Toia, defensive lineman Jeremiah Edrado-Yoshimura and linebacker Malachi Liilii-Utu.
Quarterback Caizel Jesus-Kapesi leads the offense for Na Alii.
Waipahu brings one of the state's most dangerous receivers in Jayse Braun, who has 53 catches for 1,190 yards and 16 touchdowns.
It's a true David-and-Goliath matchup on paper, with Aiea's enrollment of 865 students facing a Waipahu campus of 2,409.
Aiea came up just short in last year's OIA Division I final, falling to Kailua 21-19.
No matter Friday's result, the HHSAA Division I state tournament begins Saturday, Nov. 14.
Head to Pearl City on Friday night and cheer on Na Alii! |
