Illustrative image. Does not depict the actual voters. The ballots from the Nov. 3 general election are just about counted, and Pearl City and Aiea had a few races worth watching.
The closest one was in Aiea, where the State House District 32 seat came down to a little over 100 votes.
Democrat Micah Aiu received 3,462 votes to incumbent Republican Rep. Garner Shimizu's 3,335, a margin of 127 votes, according to the latest unofficial results from the Hawaii Office of Elections.
Aiu held the lead through every results update on election night and the day after.
In Pearl City, Democratic Rep. Gregg Takayama won another term in State House District 34 with 5,457 votes to Republican Gaius Dupio II's 2,030.
Democrat Rachele Lamosao won the State Senate District 19 vacancy race with 6,707 votes to Republican Elijah Pierick's 3,290, and that district reaches into a small part of Pearl City.
Several other lawmakers who represent the area weren't on the general election ballot because they were already elected after the August primary, according to Hawaii Ledger's district-by-district ballot guide.
Those include Sen. Donovan Dela Cruz in Senate District 17, Rep. Trish La Chica in House District 37, Rep. Cory Chun in House District 35 and Rep. Sam Kong in House District 33.
City Councilmember Val Okimoto was also elected after the primary in Council District 8.
District lines split both communities, so the races on your ballot depend on your street address.
All of these results are unofficial until the Office of Elections certifies the election.
Mahalo to everyone in Pearl City and Aiea who voted! |
